Since there are no glaring issues that pop out from your list of parts, the next thing to check is connections
It sounds as if something is loose or partially disconnected
make sure your power strip/surge protector is good, then make sure all cables and connections are fully inserted and stable, then make sure all the cards are fully seated
It could also be the motherboard shorting out on the case
Rebuilding the PC outside the case would rule that out
Make sure there are only the risers that match the mobo layout installed under the motherboard |

It may be also a heat issue, possibly due to the CPU cooler not having good enough contact with the CPU.
I take it you used the included cooler that came with the CPU? If so, did it come with a Thermal Pad, or did you need to apply thermal paste? |

I've checked the connections a couple of times and everything seems to be in order there. However, when i got the mobo the risers were missing from the box so i went to the local computer store and bought a pack of generic screws/risers. There were two riser sizes: large and small and i opted to use the large. Not sure if that could be causing the problem?
And the CPU cooling fan did come with a thermal pad on it which molded to the cpu nicely. I did however buy some thermal compound just in case i would need it so if you think that would help i could add some to the cpu.
Thanks for the replies guys,

I suggest setting everything up outside the case...
That will eliminate the possibility its a short somewhere |
