More than one stick? Swap you RAM out or try switching sticks around. Try a different brand. GSkill might be incompatable with each other or the system
    Run Memtest86+
Memtest86+ - Advanced Memory Diagnostic Tool

This will rule out out memory issues

What is your boot order in the BIOS?

Never fails....open up a case that's been running strong and then it stops working. If I were you, I would take EVERYTHING out and give it a good cleaning. I've seen more than my share of old, dusty boxes causing problems right after you do something to them.

Heck, even if it's not the problem you'll feel better about your PC LOL

Hmmm...PATA to SATA swap on the upgrade; perhaps missing drivers for SATA on your install???

The number one upgrade for a 4 year old machine that you are upgrading should be the power supply...
You overburdon the power supply while attempting to load windows and you can get all kinds of corruption
What PSU are you currently using

Good catch missed that one! My boards had the drivers for SATA separately on a floppy.

Im pretty sure all that would do is show no drive available for installing windows to, once it loaded everything
It wouldnt react the way he described just because there were no SATA drivers loaded
Plus, he said once he put everything back to original, he couldnt get windows to load

You have to make sure it's looking at the CD to boot from...Enter your BIOS to check boot order (or just hit F10 repeatedly on BOOT to get "Boot From.." options screen).

And make sure all your cables are seated properly. Do you get any light on the CD on startup??

    boot sequence goes 1.floppy 2.cd drive 3.harddrive

The green light comes on as if wants to read it.....then it goes off and on the screen it will give me a message select right boot or insert boot media blah blah blah......Ive tryed it on a brand new dvd-rom and also a old CD-rom i had layin around......same thing happens everytime.also I've put the disc into another computer and it reads it fine.

Well, I am having the same issue...I thought my motherboard got fried from a lightning strike, so I bought a mb/cpu/ram combo from tigerdirect. Asus M2N-SLI Motherboard CPU Bundle - AMD Athlon 64 X2 5000+ 2.60GHz Processor Black Edition Retail, OCZ Platinum Revision-2 2048MB PC6400 DDR2 800MHz Dual Channel Memory (2 x 1024MB) at TigerDirect.com

Same issue you are having. Then i though it was the power supply...so i bought a new one. same thing...reboots after post test and when i try to start windows both normal startup and/or safe mode. Only thing connected is HDD PATA, mb, video card, cpu, and ram. (pretty much the basics) Oh video card is new as well...bottom line the entire system is new minus HDD. Tried booting from win Xp cd and doesn't recognise the disc at all. Have a new drive on order and going to try it. But I doubt thats the problem. Odd part is that the bios recognizes the HDD and the dvd drive.

I have seen the not recognizing boot disc issue before and it was the cd/dvd drive. I am hoping that the new drive will fix that...now as for the rebooting....I'm stumped. Hopefully I can reformat and that will fix it.

My boot sequence is pretty direct....1st boot is CD....and nothing else afterwards. I am waiting for my new drive to come in to try to format my HDD. Usually when it doesn't see my cd, it's cause my cd/dvd rom decided to quit on me. It's either the drive or my cable...I don't want to say its the IDE port that my drive is plugged into since it's a new motherboard. (even though it's new doesn't mean it works...keep that in mind.) I haven't gone SATA yet since my IDE drives still work. But if the restarting issue still comes back and the system is able to see my cd at boot up ... last thing I'm gonna have to try is my HDD....but one costly step at a time.

    Good luck.

    Win 7 keeps restarting

Monitor Temp. If CPU temp is OK, and virus check is OK. Change the CPU. especially if you have an i3. Upgrade to at least an i5. It is the CPU. They do this.

yeah, there were no i3's in 2008... you have to check the date of the thread...
    welcome anyway

PS upgrading from an i3 to an i5 doesnt fix a rebooting issue
