Laptop problem, please help

My mothers laptop, HP DV6000, has....faded?

The machine in general works, it boots up and we can access the files, the only problem is the screen isnt lighting up.

there is no backlight, to see what is on screen we have to look at it in sunlight.

its like the back lighting has gone.

Could this be a driver problem or is it something to do with the machine?

It's likely a failed backlight as you say, but have you tried increasing the brightness?

Hi

It's the 'mom' here, (sons gone to work) I've done all that you said to no avail. Except I can't find a switch thingy near the hinge, only little rubbery ones all around the screen. I'll contact HP with my fingers crossed.

Yes - contact HP. They will help you to diagnose this. The brightness adjustment can vary from model to model.
