| Geforce 260 gtx is it dead? Got my new Geforce 260 gtx today, I installed it and booted up the pc but no image was displayed on the screen. The fans and cpu cooler were spinning but no image being sent to the screen. More worrying I couldn’t really tell if the 260’s fans were spinning apart from when they kicked in once for about 3 seconds. They only kicked in once during the 20mins or so I spend fruitlessly turning the pc on and off. Could the card be dead or is my psu not up to the job? I’m upgrading from a 8800 gts 512. My pc’s specs are below Q6600 oc’d 2 3.0ghz 4gb corsair xm2 ddr2 Abit dark raider ip 35 Xigmatek 650 watt Originally I thought there might be a conflict with the motherboard or something but I can find no one else with the same problem. So that leaves two options really ether the card is doa or the psu is not up to handling it. These are the requirements for the 260GTX A GeForce GTX 260 requires you to have a 500 Watt power supply unit at minimum if you use it in a high-end system. That power supply needs to have (in total accumulated) at least 38 Amps available on the 12 volts rails. As taken from 3d Guru. I can give the full specs of my psu if anyone needs them but basically there are four 12v rails each with 18amps, 650 watts total. I’m not sure how psu work so I have no idea if there is enough power. Anyone with any help, I would be Eternialy grateful.

Your power supply is fully sufficient for your 260 GTX.
Is the video card new or used? Did you completely remove the drivers before installing the new card?

Well I would put your hand near the fan of the card to make sure it's spinning. Also, even if it was overheating it shouldn't get hot so fast that you don't get a display for even a second. I'm thinking DOA card. If your 8800gts ran fine before on that PSU I see no problem with it handling the 260gtx

Can you hear Windows start? You have to listen - or just watch the hard drive LED. No LED activity indicates either a shortage of power or a plug that's not connected.

Hey i have just tryed putting my hand near the fan and i cannot feal it spinning, the fan on the card has worked once when it came on for about 3 seconds at full power. Yes my pc ran perfectly with the 8800gts, so you think i should take it back and get a new one? I might switch camps 2bh, get a 4870 or something |

I belive windows started yes as i saw my keyboard lights flash which only happens when windows starts to load. However i cnnot conferm this as i put the 8800 back in and am reluctent to try the 260 in again. Do you think it would be worth putting it in again and conferming if windows boots or not? |

It's safe to try. Put it in, boot up and listen for the Windows sounds. |

I agree - dodgy or just inadequate. |
