System Failed CPU Test

Alright.. I turned on my computer like I normally do in the morning.. then before I was going out to do some stuff I started up a scan of AVG 8.0, turned off my monitor, and went about my merry way. I come back 4-5 hours later and my system has locked up -- can't move the mouse, no response from keyboard, nothing. So, I decided to reset my computer thinking nothing of it. Well, I walk away to let it do it's thing and I come back to my computer complaining to me! It just repeats "system cpu failed test" over and over. Wondering what the heck happened I power off my computer and then power it back on and it still says it.

Thinking maybe it's actually the CPU I swap it out for the old one that worked before and I still get the error. Maybe the CMOS is freaking out so I decide to pop the battery, move the jumper, and wait a little. I put the jumper back to the original config, pop in the battery, and boot up again. I still get it! Grr... I've even pulled out both HDs and put them in a different computer to see if that might have been the problem..

Anyone have any ideas?? I've got an ASUS A8V-E Deluxe mobo with an 4000+ AMD Athlon 64 processor.

I looked at a few and people kept saying try resetting the CMOS. I'll read through a few more pages though.

Well, I've swapped out the PSU with a new one, tried a different video card, moved RAM around, reset the CMOS.. heck.. I can't think of anything I haven't tried. guess it has to be the mobo. Any way of finding out if the mobo is dead?

Testing a known good CPU in it?? That's really the best way to tell. Or testing your CPU in another Mobo.

I did a little research and what i found seems to be the problem of a underpowered PSU. Can you give us the specs of your current PSU?

Hmm.. why would it be an underpowered PSU though? The computer ran like a trooper for the past 2-3 years with the current PSU. It's a Thermaltake Purepower 600. I even tried the stock 430w PSU that originally came with the case and still had the error.
