Computer Turns on But Cannot be Used (Completely Confused!)

Hi, I hope you are well. My brother called me earlier today to tell me about his computer having a major problem. He was using his Windows XP desktop computer when it went off by itself. Since then, every time he powers it on, the lights that indicate power would come on, and the fans would also come on, but nothing would appear on the monitor screen. Furthermore, his mouse and keyboard are not powered (no lights on them whatsoever). We are both thoroughly confused. Please help. Thank you!

It sounds like a bad motherboard. He should check the capacitors for leakage. If he sees none, swap out the memory. If there are two memory sticks, pull one out and see what happens. Swap them if it doesn't work. One stick may be bad.
