Computer will not boot!!

My freind has recently given me his old computer parts to help me upgrade my computer to improve it's preformance. I've changed the motherboard, graphics card and ram from my current computer. I have read the manual and plugged in all the cables and hardware in correctly but when i turn on the computer it sends me to the OS menu where i select whether to go safe mode or last config and those features, so i enter runn normally and as soon as i do, it resets immediantly. It does this for every promt i choose in the menu (even f8 menu) but when i click on the menu 'load but dont reboot if any errors' my screen goes all fuzzy and multi-coloured and no progress.

I cannot reinstall windows xp or do anything past the OS screen (can go in BIOS menu).

I made alot of trial and error with my hardware, and found that after unplugging the HDD i can get past the OS screen and into another screen (that says i have to have a hard-drive, lol, also can run windows xp disk but no hard-drive ><).

When i try to run in safemode it stops at apg440.sys then the screen turns black for 1 second then resets...

I also assembled my dads computer after mine and realised i had the exact same problem, which really confused me.

Would love some feedback, and if u need me 2 send any more info, just ask. And yeah, just want to know what to do... damn computer.

you cant change the motherboard with WinXP currently installed and expect everything to boot up fine.

Changing the motherboard will require a fresh install of the OS. You must go into the BIOS and set the CD_ROM drive as the first boot device to load the disc before the hard drive.

soz bout this, but after 3hours of trial and error i finally fixed it up.. lol

what i did was:

-unplug the hard-drive
-turn on the computer
-when it asks for boot from cd or watev, i pluged the hard-drive back in (cause i figured that the hard-drive was the reason why it didnt let me proceed)
-put in the windows xp disc
-reformatted the computer and reinstalled windows

and now it works perfectly
idk, my guess is that my hard-drive was messing with the start-up.
