XPS Lappie won't start up.

Hello all.

I hate joining a forum just to get a question answered but I am in need of some help on my friends computer.

Dell XPS PP09L. Older machine. 1gig ram. Other than that, I can tell you not much more about it. I looked through some of the other Dell threads on the XPS and none seemed to really address the problem i'm having.

When the power cord is plugged in, the battery light comes on solid. Hit the power button annd the 9 light, the A light, and the other light all light up then go off. The power symbol light comes on, stays lit for about 15 seconds while the batt light goes off. After 15 seconds the power light goes off and the Batt light comes back on and stays lit.

Other than that, nothing else works. I pulled the fans, the ram and the covers that I could get too easily without delving too far into the machine. Made sure they were all getting a connection and then put them back in. The blue light on my power cord is also on full time. She has another one that is doing the exact same thing. They were sitting in a cabinet until I pulled one to try and figure out the problem.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

When the power cord is plugged in, is the conection loose? Its very common for the ac connector on the lapy to tear lose from the mobo.

Occasionally disconnecting the power, removing the battery and holding down the power button helps. I believe it removes any possible residual charge in the laptop. I've success with this a couple of times.
What happens when you power up with just the battery?
