power problem with dell latitude cpx laptop

hi,can anyone make a suggestion?i recently was robbed of my ac adapter for my dell latitude cpx laptop while on vacation.So i ordered a replacement from a distributor part supply on ebay.when replacement arrived i was very happy until i plugged into my laptop.computer came on for about long enough to get booted up and then blacked out.when i looked at the ac adapter the power indicator light on it was pulsing on and off.well i immediatley contacted the seller by email who agreed to send me replacement for faulty adapter,but when i plug into my laptop nothing happens not even a light on laptop battery indicator is on.is my computer fried?please help?new adapter is working correctly.
