Older PC Problems (Every game crashage)

Intel P4 2.0, ATI Radeon 9600 PRO, GE Pro M motherboard, Duro 400 Watt PSU, 1GB RAM, Seagate Barracuda 160GB.


Epic ammount of crashes. Computer crashes during everything to do with GPU age 3dmark06 ANY FPS, at least those of which I have tried so far, ran CoH just fine, a few cinematics crashed it but other than that it was fine.

ATI 9600 Feels very hot to the touch. Memtested it for 3 hrs, CPU tested for about 2.5 hrs, applied new thermal paste as I am fairly sure the reading of 72C on the CPU is wrong, at boot it will say 72C when it takes only about 5-20 sec to load windows after I exit BIOS where it says the temp is 50-55C. Top of computer feels hot to the touch as does the side but it never crashed COH on me.

Tried an ATI Radeon 9700 Pro, all that does is give me a black screen, no boot, fan spins, but nothing, I gave this card to a friend to put in his computer, but maybe he killed the card I don't know. Has on board video SIS 315 integrated, need to find the drivers, so I can at least see if that will run an old game, aka CoD 1.

Leave the side case open and blow a desk fan into the computer and see how it runs then. Also try running the clock speed of the CPU lower in BIOS, see if it crashes.

Do the same thing with the clock and memory speed of the 9600. At least then you might be able to pinpoint the problem as a heating one.

I had the same problem, but with a completely different card - geforce 5700. I changed the agp from 8x to 4x and that fixed it.
