    Question A memory question.

My motherboard has 2 slots for PC2100 and 1 slot for PC1600. Is it ok if I have a mixture of them?

Yes, but the PC2100 will run at the PC1600 speed.
Unofficial TechIMO record holder for the number of times being added and removed from beemer's ignore list.

It's the Soyo K7ADA board. Damn this sucks. I was thinking about getting more memory, but I don't want to waste a good 128 meg stick.

I just realized that I might misunderstood you AR I know if I put the PC2100 in the PC1600 it will run at PC1600's speed, but what about the other 2 sticks? Will they also be running at the speed of PC1600?

My motherboard has 2 slots for PC2100 and 1 slot for PC1600.
I think one of us is confused .. there is no such a thing as a slot for PC1600 and 2 slots for PC2100 on the same board ...
All memory slots on the same board can take either PC1600 or PC2100 sticks.

All RAM will run @ the FSB that you choose by jumper or BIOS setting ... running PC1600 @133FSB is considered hard OCing .. and might cause instability ...

    Regards

Alright, this is straight from the manual,

"Supports PC2100/PC1600 DDR SDRAM up to 3 DIMMs and using system memory up to 3 GB. Supports symmetrical and asymmetrical DDR addressing."

"This motherboard can only support 2 pcs of PC2100 DDR module, we suggest using DIMM1 and DIMM2 for PC2100 DDR module."

edit: looks like if I set the frequency to 100mhz I can have upto 3 slots of PC1600 and if I set it to 133mhz(currently set at) I can only have 2 slots of PC2100. So what happens to the 3rd slot? Does it become useless?

Well, your system *might* become instable when using the third slot @133FSB...
So it is better not to use or limit your system to 100FSB and use the three slots ...

I used to have an ECS MoBo that will refuse boot-up if i used the third slot ... and if it booted the OS will crash at once ..

    Regards
