| Occasional Freezing and Disk Boot Failure
Hey,
Ive had my computer up and running for about 4 months now. Started having problems with it about a month into use. Here are the specs and symptoms.
-BioStar Tforce 6100 mobo
-AMD Venice 2.8ghz
-1gb Gskill
-WesternDigital 250gb sata HD
-Rosewell 450 watt power supply
-Windows XP service pack 2
Basically what happens is while Im playing a game or I leave the computer sitting while on for a while the computer will lock up, dump to blue screen and say a Vital piece of information is missing from windows. Then it will restart and after the mobo boots shows the disk trying to boot, then list a disk boot failure.
Its odd, because it can go a few days without this happening or it can happen once every 30min. Either way it is driving me crazy and any help would be appreciated.
Right now I'm thinking the Hard drive might be the culprit, maybe a bad sata cable or Windows is messed up.
Thanks,
Mike |

Disable auto-reboot
When Running windows and it crashes you will get a blue screen and it will automatically restart, ofter it will restart too fast for you to see the error message. You could check the error log in this case but that is too easy. We are going to disable auto restart on system failure.
1. Go to Start -> Control Panel -> System (Windows+Pause works, too)
2. Go to Advanced
3. Under the Startup and Recovery section, click Settings...
4. Under System Failure un-check "Automatically restart"
The STOP 0x00 error codes can be search on for a solution. |

The previous log occured while I was playing a game. This is the log I get when I just leave my comp sitting for a while.
"A process or thread curcial to system operation has unexpectedly exited or been terminated"
Stop 0X000000F4 ( 0X00000003, 0X854F8020, 0X854F8194, 0X805c7AE2)
Again, any knowledge on this matter would be appreciated. |

Ok, I searched up the codes this weekend and found the first one is possibly hard drive related and the second one could be heat related. Could a loose hd power cable cause the first one? Im guessing dust is the issue on the second maybe. My case is thoroughly filtered with 1 92mm intake, 1 80mm intake and two 80mm exhaust not including the power supply. Still trying to figure this problem out. |

Scan the hard drive for bad sectors and check your temps with PC Wizard but that power supply could be the issue. |

Scanning hd now. I actually didn't even think about the power supply, but it makes since. I cant remember exactly but this power supply was installed after I had the comp running for a while and could have been installed around the same times these problems arose. I installed a Nvidia 8600GTS and figured I needed more the the cheap powerup 430w (17a 12v rail) power supply that came with the case. Thats when I purchased and installed the rosewell 450w (2 12v rails, 14a and 16a).
Any idea on what I can check to ensure the power supply is not the culprit?
Thanks again. |
