I have a dell XPS M140 running XP media center-took it to Iraq with me, so I know it picked up a bunch of viruses and malware/adware. A few days ago, when I tried to open a link on google, it redirected me to some other site. When I tried to do a scan with symantec, I couldnt connect to the server (got error lu1418).
I uninstalled SAV and installed avast AV and hijack this (and sacrificed a thumbstick doing so), but even after running the program, I cant connect to ANY antivirus sites (though I can still connect to anything else).
I tried to boot the computer in safe mode, but got the blue screen and it told me that the video driver failed to initialize. In order to get the system back up, I needed to boot in the last known good config.
Im assuming that I can go through the process of cleaning the system up b/c there is data and music on this sysem that I dont want to lose-plus I'd like to know that I was able to accoomplish something-but Im getting frustrated.
