My son dropped his IBM t30 laptop. Now when we start it the thing boots up alright but the screen shows heaps of lines (colour). The screen just seems to hang up with the fine coloured lines . You can see that the hard drive is working and the lights are on the screen .
When he dropped it, the video connector/cable was probably damaged. This is fairly common in laptops. It can be fixed, but for the time and effort involved, its better to get a new(er) laptop unless it's under warranty.
