| EVGA 9800GX2 cooling problem
Hey guys, I would like to thanks everyone ahead of time for taking the time to read about my post. I have a problem. Alright well just as the title suggests, I am having a horrible time trying to get my 9800gx2 GPU being cooled to a reasonable temperature.
I have the EVGA 9800gx2 1gig GDDR3 card.
I have the antec 1200 case with a side fan (120mm) installed on the side.
All my fans are functioning and are powered on and my GPU temp idles on the DESKTOP at 61 C. I am pretty new at this whole thing, but I am pretty sure that is high for just sitting on the desktop. The reason I bought the side fans was because I noticed even with all the fans in the antec 1200 case none of them actually was blowing directly on the GPU. when I installed the fan I was hoping for a drop in temp, but I did not recieve it. Unfortunately, I don't know how to make the side fan take the air from the case and blow it out.
I have EVGA 780i FTW Mobo.
Q9400 2.66GHz 1333mhz FSB
850W Rosewill PSU
500g seagate HDD
2x 2gig sticks of OCZ reaper 1066Mhz ram
I need some advice really really bad.
And is water cooling the only option? |

That is about the normal temperature for a 9800GX2 at idle. They will run into the upper 80's - lower 90's during gameplay.

| Oh, so what is a bad temp? Rather at what temp should I be concerned? |

95 or over, I would start to be concerned. You can download EVGA Precision, and adjust the fan speed on the card, that might help.
But your temps are nothing to worry about. All the reviews I've read put the temps right about where your at. |

Nvidia says the point where the GPU starts to throttle itself down is when the core reaches a temperature of 105°C. |

why dont you turn the fan around that way it will blow the hot air out and the other fans can blow the cold air in that way it will get cooler. |
