Intel Celeron PC hangs after a few minutes
hi folks,
my friends pc hangs/freezes after running for a few minutes, it was seriously dirty and you could almost knit a jumper from the amount of dog hair i removed from the fans and heat sinks, after some major house cleaning, reformatting to remove all the viruses, and installing Win Xp pro, the problem still persists!... i think it may be either the cpu or the psu thats at fault, unfortunatley i dont have spares to try a component swap, does anyone have any ideas as to which it may be?.
Thanks in advance

My first suggestion would be to test the PSU, but if you dont have another one anywhere it makes it a bit harder to do. Maybe you could buy one from a local store, try it, if it doesnt work take it back... but then again what is your current PSU's specs?
Mobile: Thinkpad T61 | WinXP Pro | C2D T8300 CPU | 3GB DDR2 | 320GB Hybrid SSD HDD | AGN & WWAN
Desktop: Dell XPS 8300 | 3.4 Ghz Intel i7 | 8GB DDR3 | 1TB OS, 1.5TB Mirrored DATA

I would pull the vidoe card (if there), memory etc. and reseat. Take a can of air to the slots before reseating and you can even (BE CAREFUL) wipe the contacts with a little isoproply (sp?).
Unplug and replug every connector (USB headers, fan headers, hard drvie, power supply connections etc.) I know on clean-outs that all it takes is one little piece of dust to fall somewhere it shouldn't be to cause a problem!

My first suspicion is a bad power supply, but it wouldn't hurt to test the memory either.

if the cpu thermal paste got to hot it can boil and flake. NOT DOING ITS JOB...
You may want to try to clean and reset the cpu and heatsync.
Good luck
