Removing items on Uninstal or Change list

I have an entry on my Uninstal or Change program list in the Control panel of my Vista os desktop. It is not even a program. It got there when the setup part of a program I was trying to instal failed. Now whenever I try to remove the line I get the message that "setup has failed and Microsoft are trying to find a solution" Is there another way to remove items on the Uninstal list please.
