Having Trouble importing still images with Adobe Premiere 6.0

Having Trouble importing still images with Adobe Premiere 6.0
I have successfully composed several project with still images in the past but am having trouble importing them in to Premiere suddenly. I have a machine with Windows 2K and Premiere 6.0. I am importing .JPG files but when I click OK I get the Premiere Timer (8,7,6,5...) infinately. nothing happens...it just hangs up on that timer...

anyone have ideas?
