I have a Medion 5958 laptop.
A computor guy tells me the system board may need replacing but there does not appear to be one available.
The system starts but when it gets to the XP logo it frezzes after about 5 + seconds then the XP logo breaks up and the screen develops lots of vertical lines. I tried the supplied XP recovery disc which on start up shows options of how to start. Safe mode, and others, etc. which on selecting and entering all with the same result. No effect.
I have also tried another recovery disc which requires some MS Dos input but it stops when it gets to a point where it states that RETTEN.EXE is missing . ANY answers.? What does this mean?
The vertical lines indicate a serious video problem. The video system may be a card inside the laptop or integrated into the motherboard. Either way, you're looking at an expensive repair.
