I'm Building My first computer and was wondering if The CPU wattage should be less or more. I'm purchasing an AMD 9950 Quad core Black edition, The Mother board is an Asus M3A79T Deluxe which will support a 140w CPU. but would the 125w be sufficient or even Better?(Thinking more wattage more Heat)
Other specs are .) Ultra X3 ULT40064 1000-Watt Power Supply (At Minimum)
Diamond Radeon HD 4870 Video Card - 1GB GDDR5, PCI Express 2.0 x16, CrossFireX Ready(X2)
CORSAIR DOMINATOR 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) (X2)
Hard drives havent been set yet I'll be setting up Raid after more research,(Looking like Raid 10)
Windows Home Premium 64 Bit |

As long as the CPU's rating is equal or less than what the mobo supports, you shold be ok
Ok the PSU front, i'd opt for a better brand like Seasonic, Corsair, Enermax, Antec's newer stuff seems to be pretty good too. And you won't need a 1KW unless you get TWO 4870 X2's for a total of 4 GPU's.
On the GPU front, any reason you're opting for 2 4870's instead of a single 4870 X2?

A 4870 X2 is two 4870's on a single card. A single 4870 X2 performs atleast as good, and many times a hair better as two seperate 4870's. It's also slightly cheaper and will consume slightly less power. On top of that, it would only take up a single PCIe slot.
Ther is really no reason NOT to get a 4870 X2 in your scenario unless you already own a single 4870 and are just buying one more for crossfire. |
