hi the way to check if your mobo will take the memory is download a program called SIW google it you should find it, it is a great app that will tell you anything you need to know about your system, install and run then on the left pane of the app you will see lots of catagories a bit like what you see in device manager find and click on memory tab and at the top it will display your mobo's max memory capacity and the maximum module size as well as what frequency range you can install.

as for the hard drive use some partition manager software and connect the old and new hard drive to the same system and you can copy any data including the O/S n to the larger hard drive
your mobo will be able to take it as it is only used for storage and does not affect how the system runs

hope this helps

I loaded SUI but was required to load SQLEXPR before it was usable and found it had 5500 files and was most complex.
Is this what you had to do and negotiate?
Do let me know-thanks

go here: SIW | Download

though Belarc should of been able to tell that too...

another one to suggest is PC Wizard: CPUID

sometimes it won't say, but if you click on the main board tab, then Physical Memory section in box on right, at bottom of the bottom box with all the RAM info of each stick etc, there should be a section of Memory Controller info should state the number of connectors/slots & the max size per module/stick of RAM.

on my AMD rig & the Jetway Geforce 6100 Mobo it doesn't show up right, but my Intel Q6600 Rig with the MSI nforce 650i SLI board & quad core it shows up right, states number of modules, max module size as well as max amount of RAM it can support (running WinXP 32-bit so it only says 4GB max, but the board can support 8GB max in 64-bit OS)
