PC to LCD : DVI to VGA problem

I tried connecting the PC to my 37'' LG LCD which has VGA and HDMI ports.
I have an Nvidia 6200 graphic card with DVI and VGA outputs.
Working with Windows XP on Pentium 4.

I want to have a clone/mirror view of both the PC monitor and TV screen. I connectd VGA out to PC Monitor and DVI out - VGA converter - VGA TV . The PC works normal, but the TV shows image only when windows is loading. the second "choose user to login" (i have 2 users login ) screen shows , the image on the TV disappears and "no signal" text is displayed.

I also tried switching connections - connecting DVI to PC monitor and VGA to TV VGA but then i have no signal at all.

When i conected the pc to the tv with VGA to VGA without connecting the PC monitor - i have a great display on the TV with RES. of 1200-736pix.

My DVI to VGA converter is DVI-I so it should support an analog signal.
I also tried switching - connecting DVI to PC monitor and VGA to TV VGA but then i have no signal at all.

Didn't try DVI to HDMI because of the large distance between PC to TV.

Please advise.....

first off how far away from your tv is your pc? i would recommend trying DVI to HDMI as long as you buy a high quality HDMI lead i.e spend over £100 on one and you should be ok ecause it is a digital signal you wont lose quality.

your problem could lie within your graphics card i have experienced problems with nvidia graphics cards when trying to connect to a tv in that although i could get the cloned image via an s-video connection when i tried to watch a video i got the image on my pc but not on my tv i think its just a problem with nvidia cards in general try an ati card i find them excellent for connecting to tv or try connecting trough s-video if your tv has one but i am sure it has being an LG
