Here's a link to the manual: ftp://download.intel.com/support/mot...V2_English.pdf
I understand what you are saying....have you tried the option "removable devices" in the boot menu? Setting that to floppy drive, then selecting "removable device" in the boot sequence. |

If none of this works

Try windows Disk manager. (USE AT OWN RISK). Disk manager doesn't incorporate all the 'saftey features' partition magic has. If you mess around too much you may loose your data and render your PC unbootable, meaning you will have to format the entire drive and reinstall windows. so BE CAREFULL.
To get into disk management
Go Start>control panel>Admin Tools>Computer Management. Select storage in the left menu, then Disk Management. Right click the unallocated space and create a partition.
Also i'd like to know how this problem occured? How did the unallocated 6GB get there in the first place?
Hope this helps.

I am not sure how he ended up with unallocated space - but the same thing happened to me while using PM-8.
I purchased 2 externals - a 500 gig and a 320 gig. I wanted to partition the 500 into 100's each and the 320 into 80's.
I formatted the 500 gig external then activated PM. The drive for the external showed F, and 500 gigs of space. I chose the first one to be 100 gigs and it did that with no problem, giving it the letter G. However, when I went for the second partition on F, it came up with unallocated space (a lot!) and shrunk the size of G to 80 gigs. When I tried for a third partition, the same thing happened - it shrank the size of the partition preceding the new one.
I tried several times - clicking UNDO and backing out of PM. I called a friend who had partitioned her external and she couldn't understand why it was doing any of that. We tried over and over for an hour before I gave up again.
I took the drives to the guy who built my computer... safer to pay him and get it right.

When you create a partition you have to tell PM where it will take the space from. If you don't it may take it from a partition (in your case G) that you had not intended. with PM you mush be VERY carefull and read everything. I never had major problems with it, and when i did they were easily fixed. (except wthat time i currupted the MBR, opps)

I highlighted F drive (the largest portion) to indicate that it is where I wanted the next partition to be. I did it over and over again - making sure, and with a friend double-checking me.
So.... I got my externals back this afternoon, and I asked if he had any trouble. He said he ended up using a different software to partition them - as PM wasn't co-operating. Partition Logic was the one that worked best for him.
Go figure....

yeah i now use Paragon partition manager 8. (only because PM8 won't run on vista well) I would reccomend it. it has an easy to follow wizard and is much more user friendly IMO. |

I'm back after a few days...and still no luck. I tried to reboot using the floppy disk as you instructed, but upon start-up, the computer told me to remove disk before continuing, even though it was the first in line after I set it that way in the BIOS. I also followed your instructions using Disk Management up to the point where I had to take action. It looked easy enough, but I definitely don't want to make the problem worse. Do you suggest I follow Disk Management or download and purchase Paragon PM9. I read the reviews, and it looks like a great product. Thanks! |

Symantec bought out PMagic. The last version version was 8.05 I think. I now use Partition Manager 9 when i need to edit partitions. I don't like it as much as PMagic but i believe its one of the best out there.
My advise would be do read up on how partitioning works because ANY partitioning programs carry a large risk of data loss, especially if you don't know what your doing.
