can't delete document

There have mysteriously appeared in "My Documents" a large number of files that seem to be Paint Shop photo album pictures. When I try to delete these, they delete but generate multiple copies of tjemselves. What have I become infected with and what should I do?

I don't know if this is a virus or not but you shouldn't take chances.

With regard to viruses, it's always better to be proactive and install anti-virus software before an infection. One doesn't put on the condom after the visit to the doctor. (Ok, enough preaching.)

You need to get an anti-virus application, install it in safemode, so the virus doesn't foil your efforts. THen run a scan in safemode and if it is a virus, it should clean you.

I do have Norton Internet Security 2008 and update automatically and scan frequently, but this thing skipped through. Other suggestions?

I'd run a full scan now.

Also, open up one of the picture files and view it. What comes to mind is that keystroke recording programs will often evade detection but will create screenshots of what a user was looking at. This is to determine user IDs and Pwds.

EDIT:
Also, check the Task Manager and see if any unusual apps or services are running.
Also, check the start->Run command and see what is shown.
