HP nc6000
my computer has come up with message
cannot loads hive (file):\system root\system32\config\saftware
what does this mean and how do i repair it

nc6000
i cannot actually get into windows just the set up screen which says start in safe mode,safe mode and tabs etc so not sure how to actually start any restore any help would be great

I have given you a link for the repair process. All you need is your Windows installation CD.

I cannot do the repair for you and there is not enough room here in the forums to hold your hand through the process. You need to either do this yourself step by step or get local help - perhaps even professional assistance.
While I have your "ear", I would like to suggest that you start backing up your PC when you get it up and running. Get an external USB hard drive big enough and this:
