Is this using the windows wireless manager or using the network card wireless software?

it allows me to clear the field, and re-enter a valid keyphrase, but after the dialogue box closes and i try to connect, it says the keyphrase is incorrect. if i go back to reset it, it still shows the 8-character keyphrase

could this be a problem with the wireless modem set-up (it was set up by another person who plugs her cpu directly into the modem upstairs. she did not know it was a wireless unit, and i tried to get wireless access to it before it was set up with a security keyphrase for the wireless aspect of it)? signal strength is excellent, but i only am allowed "limited access" or "local access" to the network; internet access is not allowed!
