DVD-RW read-Write problems.

Hello

I have experienced this problem on the following OS:
- Windows XP (SP1 - 2 - 3 - home and pro)
- Windows Vista (Ultimate SP 1)
- Both 64 and 32 bit

The computer is fully up to date, all latest drivers are present.
Computer config:
- CPU: Intel core2quad Q6600
- Mobo: Asus P5E3 DELUXE 775 INTEL X48/2xPCIe 16x
- DVD drives: ASUS DRW-1814BL
- RAM: 2GB DDR3

Problem description:
CD-RW or DVD-RW are not recognized. non writeable media is sometimes recognized.
It's quite frustrating not to be able to burn any ... Backups.

Quick sneakpeak on win 7: only dvd's are writeable, no cd's.
Back in College a tutor told something on the subject but as always I didn't take notes...

Anybody got anything on this?


p.s. the drives work fine before the windows updates are installed.

Un-do SP3.... I had all sorts of problems with audio recording eqpt/apps after SP3.

It will allow you to D/L updates independent of 'Windows Update' site... I use Firefox, and Belarc takes me to a M$ site where I can D/L as an IT Pro. This lets me save the updates on my HD, creates a restore point for rollbacks, and allows me to pick and choose what I want.
