Left 4 Dead Small Freezes

For some reason when i play left 4 dead it randomly freezes up my computer for 1-2 seconds and than resumes play like normal. I am really confused what could cause the game to run "clippy?" like this? I don't know how else to describe it other than very small lock ups in my system? any support would be greatly appreciated. I'll list what i know of my computer specs. below. *also i have alt tabbed out and the game is only running on 346,000 memory it states, i should have plenty left. I run world of warcraft with no problems and it takes up over twice the memory.


AMD Athlon 64X2 Dual core proc. 6400+ 3.22ghz. *its actually running at this speed, i have checked it*

2.00gb ram
Windows XP Service pack 3
8800GTS

Let me re-phrase that... what setting are you using on your 8800GTS?

Just the standard settings, i never over clocked it or anything like that. I am running the game at 1680x1050 at 60 hertz refresh rate? It has the newest drivers, physx enabled. It is the 640MB version of the 8800gts.

I heards its a dual core problem that needs to be patched.
You can change it to single core although performance drops slightly by typing this in console.
mat_queue_mode 0
It stops the lag spikes until a official fix is made.
