DVD nor CD will burn after Office 2003 upgrade

I recently upgraded to Office/Outlook 2003 so I could interface my Motorloa Q phone with email and now I've got some issues:

1st thing I noticed is that I couldn't rotate images in the MS picture viewer.
I resolved that myself after an internet search.

2nd - My Sony DVD burner won't burn DVD's or CD's. It goes through the motions with Nero, Roxio, & XP Pro's built in progarm but the DVD's don't play or read in anything. They show up as blank. It will play other dvd's and cd's just fine.

3rd - My Plextor CD burner won't burn either -- also goes through the motions but nothing on the disks (same as with the DVDs). It will also play other cd's just fine.

I tried to uninstall & reinstall the drives but that didn't help. I also tried to update the drivers but that didn't work either. I rolled back to the original drivers.

This is an older custom built pc that has been upgraded several times. It has an Asus mother board with a AMD processor. I run XP Pro. So far all other equipment works fine: printers are good, HDD's are fine, even the floppy is good. Just not CD or DVD burners. I would appreciate any help withthis.

I also went through the MSkb but didn't see anything. I checked my windows update log and there were several xp updates and office 2003 updates. I really would appreciate any help here.

Try blowing the dust out of the drive with compressed air can.
