Hp Probem

My hp pavillion a520n stoppped working recently. It seemed to be a problem with the power supply. The copmuter was in kind of a deep sleep mode and the power switch did not work. The power supply light was blinking. I unplugged all the power connectors and plugged the power supply back in and it did not blink anymore. This makes me think that it is a different problem. I am more concerned with the files on the hdd. I took out the Hdd (samsung 160gb) setr the jumper to slave and connecterd it to the ide cable where my cdrom drive was connected on a nearly identical computer (hp pavillion a520n with a video card and different cd writer) The computer started up (windows xp) and recognized that a drive was there but said it was not formatted. I turned off the computer (without formatting) and unplugged the cd drive from the ide cable that the hdd was sharing. I then noticed that I had the jumper setting to limit the hdd to 32 gb. I took it out and left the drive on the ide cable by itself set as a slave. When I hit the power button the copmuter would not start. Im hoping im forgetting something stupid... please help...thanks in advance

Bob

If the drive is alone on the cable, it's not a slave. Use the Cable Select jumper or make it master.

Back to problem 1, the power supply may need replacing or the motherboard may be cooked. It could be both. A failing power supply often fries the motherboard.

Examine the mobo for bad caps:

If you find none, try another power supply.
