I've been using TM Anti-Virus Plus Software for 3 years. On Weds, I began getting "serious error" virus warnings attached to many files, Mostly associated with ATI TEch. Been through ten live chat sessions with TM customer service reps about this. T he same virus is listed for all files: TROJ_Generic.DIT. TM keeps assuring me that this virus is not really a virus but a fake but for the last three days they cannot remove it and tell me it has affected all of their software programs. Is anyone else having this problem. Is TROJ_Generic.DIT a fake. Microsoft has no listing for it. What can I do to get rid of it as TM remains stuck. Is there a better anti-virus software I should be using? I already have Ad-Aware and Malaware Anti-Malware andSuperspy, none of which are picking up on the TROJ_Generic "virus."
HELP and sorry in advance for all the questions. pennie |

Reading around on forums it sounds like it could just be an issue with TM Anti-Virus plus. Did you recently update the program? |

No, things seem to be working but much slower. What is disturbing is that TM's customer support staff keep trying to reassure me that TROJ_Generic.DIT is not a real virus and since Weds of this week, for 4 days, they keep telling me they will fix it in the next update. That hasn't happened and I continue to get the "Serious Error" pop-up when I run a scan--everyday. It won't go away. There is a "Serious credibility" issue here.
I just renewed for the 3'd year less than a month ago. Do I just keep ignoring the virus warnings? Is this really a fake or is it a real virus?
Sorry for all the Q's |

Does it tell you exactly what files are infected? |

GroundZero3,
I update at least 2-3 times/day manually and am on auto-update anyway. There have been at least 6 updates since this problem started on Weds. Looked for an update this morning but TM hasn't sent one since yesterday afternoon despite many chat sessions with the support people all day yesterday. |

GZ3,
Yes, it tells me all the names with file extensions. They are all associated with ATI Tech, which I believe is my screen. The files are all valid and not installed by the "virus." |

| TROJ_Generic.DIT problem
I am having the same problem. It occurs ONLY when I open MIE and go to my website. The virus has attached itself to my Thawte site seal. I am the ONLY person who can't see the site seal on my website from my computer. When I open my site using Firefox the site seal is visible.
I called TM three times and did all sorts of system scans, etc. NOTHING TM tells me to do is working to remove the virus. They also told me is harmless, but if it is harmless, then why is it affecting my site seal?
After reading this post, I believe this is a TM problem and we need to wait until they design a fix for it. The last person I spoke with at TM told me the programmers are working their asses off trying to find a fix.
For the record, I updated my software recently and I also get a "restart the computer for the update to take effect" pop up window EVERY TIME I start up my PC. This is getting very annoying. TM is really hanging themselves with this problem. Many people are calling with the same issues. Their competition must be smiling right about now. This MAY be the end of TM if they don't come up with a functional software.
IF ANYONE ELSE IS HAVING THIS PROBLEM OR KNOWS A FIX, PLEASE POST HERE.
Thanks! |

Hi again pennie,
I believe what your seeing is that Trend Micro is actually indicating a "False Positive". Which can happen to any Anti-virus program. You get a False positive when the signature(pattern of a file) closely matches the signature of known viruses. 'Tho I would have thought that TM support would have told you that.
Technically ATI is the display card manufacturer and ATI drivers are KNOWN to occasionally have problems with AV programs.
In fact, before you updated the drivers, the program SHOULD have told you that you need to turn off any AV programs otherwise the install might be interrupted or might fail if the AV program is running.
I think your problems will go away if you
1. uninstall the ATI drivers,
2. Turn OFF Trend Micro AV,
3. Perform another install with the ATI driver suite,
4 turn TM AV back on.

I tried that. It does NOT remove the virus or fix the problem. I spent several hours on the phone with several TM tech support people and NOTHING worked. |
