    boot.ini

    I modified the boot.ini, and changed it from 2 to 1 and then made a ghost with Acronis. Then I brought back my ghost, but could not boot it because
    the boot is on partition 2 instead of 1. Is it possible that I could find the boot ini file in asking Acronis to (review my disk) and change it
    Here is the boot.ini file I backed up with ghost
    [boot loader]

    timeout=30
    default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOW S
    [operating systems]
    multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Micro soft Windows XP Professional" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect

    and it should read

    [boot loader]
    timeout=30
    default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOW S
    [operating systems]
    multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS="Micro soft Windows XP Professional" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect

    Is there any other way to correct this.

    Thank you

    The BOOT.INI file must be on the first active partition of the first bootable drive. Sorry - there are no workarounds per se.

    Boo

    I don't know how I did it, but I got it back. My only problem now is at startup, it gives me the choice of 2 Windows XP Professional and 1 Windows Media. How can I get rid of 2 of them and keep the only one I need, to make it open directly in Win XP without having to choose.

    Thanks again!

    Dude, you don't even know which BOOT.INI that Windows is using! Like I said, Windows is going to use the one on the *first* active partition of the *first* drive. It's pretty darned obvious that it's not using the one you think it's using because there is only one XP and no Media Center at all mentioned in it.

    You need to follow the rules, Germain. You can't make up your own and expect the universe to follow.

    Edit the BOOT.INI on the first drive directly *or* boot into Windows and go to Control Panel > System > Advanced > Startup and Recovery > Edit. Believe me, you will then be editing the BOOT.INI that is on the first active partition of the first drive.

    boot.ini

    Oups! you're right, I have 2 operating system, 1 Win XP Pro and 1 Windows Media. Is it possible then to always boot with Win XP Pro by default, without having to choose between Pro and Media.

    This might be a stupid question but why not just get rid of Media Center edition.

    Boot.ini

    I did get rid of Windows Media by formating my second hard drive, now I have 2 boot options - Wndow XP Professional and Windows (Default) which I want to get rid of.

    Here is the boot.ini

    [boot loader]
    timeout=30
    default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOW S
    [operating systems]
    multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS="Micro soft Windows XP Professional " /noexecute=optin /fastdetect

    I thought of chnaging the timeout to 0, but windows goes to Wndows (Default) on boot instead of Windows XP Professional.
