| internet explorer unable to connect to internet
I am unable to the internet with internet explorer but there is no problem with Firefox and email works fine with Thunderbird - haven't tried outlook.
Also, I cannot be seen or see the other 2 pc's on my home network. I have a network drive which can be seen by the other 2 pcs but not this one. I'm nominally running a wireless network but have also tried a direct LAN connection, making no differnece.
I have turned off the firewall (CA Securty Suite) and also deinstalled it. This has made no difference.
I'm running XP Prof, SP2. Pc is a lenova laptop. |

| I'm having trouble connecting to the internet
I have a Compaq Dimensio laptop running Windows XP.
Physical configuration: I have a coax cable (from my ISP which is Cox Communications) to a Toshiba modem (running DOCSYS 1.0) to a wireless switch (SMC).
Software: Running Windows XP.
Testing done so far: I can ping and get the IP addresses of the router and my ISP (ping cox.net), but when I load Windows Internet Explorer all I get is a white screen but no webpage loads. Firewall has been turned on and off and in neither configuration does it allow me to get past the white screen. I do not even get the typical IE message 'page cannot be displayed'.
What should I do next? |

I will come back to see if someone has had similar problem because that is one issue I'm dealing with now. Firefox works fine, Internet Explorer doesn't. To my knowledge, nothing was changed. I tried installing the upgraded IE 8 and that did not resolve the issue. Running XP and using Cox cable for ISP. |

I've heard that some virus is going around that does that. |

I would ignore that post above (with the link).
If firefox works fine why dont you just use that its much better IMO. Or is there a reason you prefer using IE?

The problem is the two guys that own the computer want both operable. One uses FF and the other uses IE. I can't blame them for wanting both to work in case one faults. |

Not a nice thing to say Aaron to 'ignore' someone trying to help.
| Im not saying to ignore peoples help but you post questionable links in your posts leading me to believe you are a spammer. If you are not I wouldnt post random links in your replys so this does not happen.
@blondie09631:- have you tried scaning with malwarebytes? |

Thank you for the link and I'll post once I've tried repairing.

@blondie09631:- have you tried scaning with malwarebytes? | That is on my list to try. I tried SpyBot scan and running updates on Norton for a new virus but everything came back clean. I heard malwarebytes was a good program to try. Going on vacation but will try this Monday when I get back into town. Meantime, I have the guys using Firefox with only a little complaining |
