| HP JetDirect 170x and DHCP
I am having trouble on my network with two JetDirect 170xs. I am the admin for a network that spans 3 buildings that are in the same area. We have around 40 other JetDirect 170xs on our network that are working fine. The two that are giving us problems won't pull an IP from DHCP, but when a computer is plugged into the same jack, the computer can get an IP. These two are in the same building and there are other JetDirects in the same area that work fine. There are 9 switches in the building and I even tried plugging a spare printer and JetDirect into each individual switch and they all gave the JetDirect an IP. Any ideas? |

Oh, and the problem JetDirects have worked before and we have HP LaserJet 1200 Series PCL printers hooked up to most of the JetDirects. |

Probably a stupid question, but you have 40 Jet Direct 170xs on the network, how many PCs do you have and how many other devices that require an IP? Meaning, do you have enough reserved IP's on the network to be doled out via DHCP?
Could it be that you don't have enough IP addresses?

Do you have vlans in these three buildings? Are they using static dhcp addresses? |

No vlans. No static addresses. DHCP has more than enough IPs for our needs. |

Yes. I wait 5 minutes or so to give it time to try and get an IP, but still gets the default. There are two jacks in both rooms with a computer hooked up the other jack. I have switched jacks and cables for the JetDirects and computers and the computers will work fine, but not the JetDirects. I even switched out the printer and printer cable at one of the stations and nothing changed. |

Did you try the 2 Jetdirects on a port where other Jetdirects work? Just want to verify that it isn't a problem with the 2 pieces of hardware. |

Try resetting the Print server (Turn off and hold the reset for 15 seconds etc while reconnecting) then flush the DNS. Wait about 2 minutes then try to ping the last 6 characters of the mac address using ping NPInnnnnn. |
