    Track stick buttons not working

The track stick moves the cursor, but the buttons to click to open files don't work. No response from the left one when clicked. The right on brings up a window that allows you to OPEN, but doesn't automatically open the file. The other button does nothing. Have been using a wireless mouse, giving the computer to grand-daughter without the wireless! Might have to give up the wireless also!! It worked fine at one point. Thanks! Nana

Nana, you have to tell us what kind of computer you have. They are not all desktops or laptops or the same brand. Please be specific.

The first place to look is the Control Panel under Mouse. Check the assignment for your button there.

You do not need the mouse to make changes there. You can use the Tab key and arrow keys to navigate. You can use the Enter key to select.

    Track stick buttons

BipolarBill, Thanks! I have a Compaq Armada M700 ~ a dino!! I went to the Control Panel and the mouse properties include buttons, pointers, pointer ops, wheel, and hardware. As I went through, they all apply to a reg mouse, not the track stick. Thanks for any help in advance. Nana

Yeah - that thing is older than old.

    Get updated pointer drivers here:

Compaq Armada m700 Notebook PC*-* Download drivers and software - HP Business Support Center

You need the "Easy Point" software.

If no joy, this unit is probably ready for the scrapheap. Frankly, I wouldn't give it to my enemy, much less a cherished relative.

BipolarBill, Went to the site you suggested.
Entered XP Pro as my OS. Went to Driver-Keyboard-Mouse&Input devices.
    Easy access buttons------download or
    PC Card ...---------download.
Don't see "Easy Point Software" download. I did lownload the Easy Access Buttons thinking that's what I needed. Ends up, that's not what I needed!! How do I get rid of the download, or do I need to worry about it? The computer doesn't have those buttons~remember it's a dino!! Looked and loooked for Easy Point, no success! Any other suggestions? Thanks, Nana

Just toss the download. Installing it won't hurt anything anyway - it's made for that model.

No - this is a hardware issue. The button is probably worn out.

That's what I though when the download didn't help. Thanks for all the help ~ a wireless mouse works fine on the old dino! It's always nice to get confirmation from an expert!! Nana
