hi can anyone help me undo this confusion i am experiencing as it is bugging the hell out of me,
are there two types of DDR2 ram? as i bought some today and it does not fit in my ram slot, i currently have a 2gb stick of pc2-5300 DDR2 667 and wanted to stick another couple if gig in so i went out and bought another stick of 2gb pc2-5300 DDR2 667 however the break in the pin configuration is out by the equivalent to 2 pin widths so i got to thinking are there 2 types of DDR2,
i googled the part number off the new stick and it come up with a site stating that the part number is for servers, which would make a little sense if the product description was even a little different but they are not,
please help
many thanks

If one RAM type is "registered" and the other is not, that is your difference.
It doesn't really matter. You have proven that there is more than one type. This is one of the reasons why you should use Crucial, Kingston or other brand names. Their web pages will tell you what works best in your PC. For instance, Crucial will get it right first time and they don't charge much more than Newegg these days either.

I'm going to venture a guess here and say you are putting one in backwards, because no there shouldn't be a difference. 240pin DDR2 should be the same no matter which manuf. it came from.
But hey it would help to know the manuf, and maybe part number.

its definately server ram i did some more research after i posted on here and the part number i have bought which is 398707-051 mad by HP is only for proliant servers and only 4 of them at that
its not a problem though i will be going back to the shop i got it from today as i also bought a graphics card from them which turned out to be faulty as well,
a bit peed off to say the least as i spent over £150 on upgrades for my computer all excited about fitting them and only my hard drive worked or fitted lol oh well s**t happens |
