    Video card help (SiS 530)

    Hi everybody!

I am refurbing a Compaq 5070 and got WinME installed fine. Only problem is that the video is stuck at 640x480 and 32 bit! I have heard of it being stuck at 640x480 and 16 colors (driver corrupt or not installed), but not at 32 bit. I installed the driver for teh SiS 530, which is one of two cards I have found that were used in this system. The other is an ATi, but when I try that driver, it says that no ATi adapter is found. I assume it is a SiS530 then. Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this?

    Thanks
    Dave

Crap! Lost the first long reply!
Anyway, go to Display properties and change the Display adapter to Standard VGA and click yes when warned about it not being the right one. Reboot into Safe Mode and go to Device Manager and do some general house cleaning while there. Expand all device trees and delete ALL instances of multiple listings especially in Dispaly adpters. But in Display adapters delete/remove ALL instances, period! Now, go to Add/Remove Programs and look fo any drivers/utilities assocciated with ANY display adapter and click remove. Reboot and if it doesn't automatically find and install the proper dirvers ( for ALL the proper devices) then direct it to the most up-to-date files you have. Good Luck!

Ok, did that and it is still giving me the same problem.
Maybe it is a bad driver. I will try to find another source for it.
This is a fresh install of WinME.

Unfortunately, the problem lies in the fact that this is a compaq motherboard

It could be bad drivers though. I will check the drivers out there, since I doubt there is much difference as long as it is SiS530.
    Thanks
