| Vista Ultimate Logon Issue
User has a Windows Vista Ultimate Laptop which was just added into Domain. Problem is that the Secure Logon feature is greyout to enable the Ctrl_Alt_Delete option. User needs to be able to logon to the domain when laptop boots up. User also needs to be able to NOT logon to domain when laptop is being used at home. |

Is he using his local ID to log into the domain or a domain ID?
Has his machine been added to the domain?

If the computer has been added to the domain and the user has logged onto the lappy while on the network (the same one as the DC - Domain Controller) then it should cache the user's credentials and then they can log onto the laptop when they aren't in the office.
If they don't want to use the same "domain" account when they are at home, then they would need to have another "local" account set up. The problem with this can be that the user will get a different when they go from one to the other - some users can get a little confused when they say that they've saved something to their "My Documents" for example...
With regards to the "Secure Logon" option, if this wasn't set before the computer was added to the domain, then it would have been set by the "Group Policy" - which (on Windows 2003 SBS servers at least) is to have it set to require the "three fingered salute"....... |

Sorry it have taken me so long to respond, I was out in the field.
Problem is that after adding the laptop to the domain, there is only the Local user ID listed in the Windows logon screen. I wanted to have the traditional log on screen which shows the domain option. User has a Domain ID and PWD and a Local ID and PWD which have different passwords. I tried to enable the "Secure Logon" Option but that is greyed out on the laptop. |

Do you have the "fluffy" type of screen (the one that is colourful) or is it that you have the secure logon - but haven't expanded it (by pressing "Options") to allow you to choose whether you logon to the domain/local account...?
If the "secure logon" box is greyed out, you should be able to see whether the setting is set, enabled or disabled. |

Wait, just re-read the OP...
With Fista, you won't have the TFS option/box as it doesn't work like XP/2k in that respect....
Whereas in the previous versions of the client OS, you would have the domain option in the third box (available after doing the actions mentioned in the above post) but what you would need to do to log onto the domain account with Fista would be to type " DOMAIN\" in front of the username in the relevant box..... |

The logon screen is typical colorful Vista screen where there are login icons listed. With the logon icon showing, there is no place to type in domain\ID into the ID. It just shows as "Ted" and prompts for password. Then he logs in with local password. He does not have access to network resources since he is not logging into the domain.
Secure logon option is Unchecked and greyed out. |

Ignore my original comments, as they don't apply to the issue...
When you/they power the computer up, you get the default option of logging in as the last user.
You can then click "Switch user". You will then get the option of "<last user>" or click "another user" and then enter "DOMAIN\Username" or "COMPUTERNAME\Username" in the username box - in the example above it would be "DOMAIN\Ted" - and then enter the password for that account...... |

Thanks for the suggestion!
I will try it when the user is available. He's not in the office now. |
