Display problems

Hi
I was looking at an old computer last night and I changed the Display Properties to 1024x768. The computer didn't like this at all and the display was a jumble of icons, colours and lines all moving around. I tried rebooting the computer and turning it off and on but there was no change. How can I get my normal display back? Do I need to re-install the video card?? Much appreciate any help etc.

Just reboot to safe mode, try to change the display properties (you can't) then reboot to normal mode. You should boot to a default setting. Now change it to the old setting.

I can't reboot into safe mode via windows as it's just a jumbled screen. Is there another way?

After the bios posts, press the F8 key. You'll get a start up menu. Windows 9x; go to safe mode. WIndows NT, 2000, XP; vga mode. You can make changes from there.
