Malware help please.
Hi,
Hopefully someone can please help me here...
I am currently running xp sp3. I am having a problem and am pretty sure it's malware that is the problem. It seems that when using google with firefox, it keeps redirecting me to sites that i don't want to go to. All the time this happens and it's getting quite irritating. I was wondering if anyone could please help me get rid of this nasty bug??
Thanks,
-Brendan

Try Malwarebytes, it's free and was the only program that got rid of that accursed antivirus xp 2008 that infested my wife's laptop.

Disable system restore until you get the malware cleaned out.
What sites are you being redirected to?
Run CCleaner: CCleaner - Home (NOTE: during the install, one of the windows will have several boxes you can uncheck...at the very least, uncheck the Yahoo toolbar installation)
Tweak your startup with CCleaner as well...click the 'tools' button and click 'startup', I'm sure you can disable a ton of stuff in there. Also, run the registry cleaner (it's safe).
Run a few antispyware programs in safe mode...tap F8 as your computer boots and select safe mode after you install/update the programs.
Malwarebytes: Malwarebytes Anti-Malware - Free software downloads and reviews - CNET Download.com
A-squared free: A-squared Free - Free software downloads and reviews - CNET Download.com
SuperAntispyware Free: SUPERAntiSpyware.com - Downloads
What antivirus are you using?

Martoch beat me to it. Running the programs in safe mode is the way to go.

If you can't open your C: drive or run malwarebytes, you need to start with this:
Avira AntiVir Rescue System
Open it and it will automatically burn a CD. You need to start your PC with this CD. Use the spacebar to select English. Let it scan and rename. Do not save a log. When it's done, boot back into Windows and run Malwarebytes.MCSE, MCP and nut job
