EDIT: It was the ram that died. Guess I'm taking a trip to Fry's soon.
I have a 848p-A v1.0 motherboard. according to people with similar problems they have suggested removing the cmos battery which didn't work. I was also suggested clearing the cmos by messing with the jumpers. I don't know where the jumpers are.
heres a pic of the motherboard
i think its the little red thing to the right of the chip but im not sure. even so i tried moving that jumper to the right and the computer wouldnt boot up at all. so is it the right one or am i doing something wrong

yes that is the cmos jumper
manual is here ECS Web Site
Just remove it for a minute or so then place it back on. Turn off power to motherboard first though. (ie disconnect power cable)

Usually the long recycling beep is bad/missing RAM. If you have two sticks, try each one by itself in each slot. Be sure to unplug the power while you are switching the RAM around.

i have one stick of ram. when i take it out the beeping is still there. does that eliminate the possibility of ram being the problem? or do i have to replace it to know |

Are you hearing the same beep with no RAM as with the one? If so, it sounds to be like the one piece you have is not working. |

I'd say you just proved that the beep means no RAM, if the beep is exactly the same, I'd test the RAM in another computer, or try another stick in your computer.
