IE8 does not store History or Temp Internet Files
Hi all. (Please forgive lack of technical jargon!!
) For some reason ever since I upgraded my browser to IE8 no history or temp internet files are stored on my computer. They always get erased when I close all internet windows. This is so annoying as I am very lazy and enjoyed using the little arrow in the address bar to go to my previous websites without having to type them in!! I also have to keep re-entering passwords all the time. Has anyone got any suggestions on how I can return my computer to its former glory??? I am also using Virgin PC guard - don't know if that will have anything to do with it?? Thank you!!

Hi, and WELCOME TO TECHIMO..!
I've been using IE8 on my Windows7 install, and it should be within the Internet Options.
Just had another idea/thought, you aren't using the "Porn mode" are you - also known as "InPrivate" or "Privacy Mode" - these are set to clear (and/or not save) browsing schtuffs...I've seen the light... It was green, flashy and attached to a Network Interface Card...Whenever someone says "You can't miss it", I invariably do...

Hiya. Thanks for replying.
No I haven't been using the private mode. In frustration, I have also reinstalled an earlier Internet Explorer - 6 I think - because I had no problems whatsoever before I installed IE8. However same problem is occuring - sites are stored in history, address bar and temp internet files - until I shut all of the IE browser windows down and it is like I haven't been online before - EVER!! I've been through Internet Options to see if I've checked something different but no. I'm completely clueless!! I am using Win XP btw...
Thanks!!

If you cruise the geek blogs and forums, IE8 seems to be playing havoc with software and routines that once easily accessed Temporary Internet Files. If you try to bring up the files in My Computer or Windows Explorer, you can't even find them. Only workaround I';ve found so far is to use image management software (such as Compupic). These, at least, still seem to see the temp files.

have you tried to turn on privacy mode then see what happens?
I'm also curious if you turn it on, then turn it off if that will reset a switch or regkey so it stops doing that

Have you checked this setting (which, IIRC is a new 'feature' in IE8 - as I can't remember seeing it in previous versions) to see if that's why you're having the issue..?
I believe that unless you've completely un-installed IE8 you would still be seeing the same effect, even if you'd tried to just install an older version..I've seen the light... It was green, flashy and attached to a Network Interface Card...Whenever someone says "You can't miss it", I invariably do...

Nope. My hotel is about 7 miles from the airport, and I'll be working at a facility right next to the airport.
