Internet not booting up doesn't stay on screen

When I click on the internet explorer it comes up quickly then goes again. When I do get it to stay up, a message comes up "windows is trying to solve the problem and will rectify the problem when one is found, nothing happens. Why doesn't it stay on??? was working last night??? Do I have a virus??? I have done a scan and says all working fine and no virus'. Please help if anyone know what is going on. I have tried restoring the internet that doesn't help. Maybe I should uninstall and then reinstall....is this the best way to go? Forgot to mention I am using Vista
