| Remote desktop closes after login! - URGENT
Hi everybody!
I have a serious issues here and can't do my work because of that.. Please help.
I Googled the issues before coming here but the thing is that I'm not using ATI or nVidia card so can't disable any display driver services. I have an ASUS F3E with Intel Graphics Card. I downloaded the newest driver but it's not working.. The RD still closes and I have no idea what is going on..
[edit]
I might want to also add that it's not a firewall problem since it's been working for so long with BitDefender working on my computer..
I'm using PeerGuardian.. Thought it might cause the issue but after I closed it the RD still kept closing itself..
PLEASE HELP...
Thanks,
K

Hi, and WELCOME TO TECHIMO...!
Going from what you have said before, it sounds like it is a problem with one of the computers - but it doesn't sound like a firewall issue as you can get the logon screen up.
I would try to connect to the remote computer from another machine, to test whether it is your local computer that is the cause (which my instinct is telling me it is most likely). If it works fine from another computer, then I would try it again to confirm that it still isn't working.
If it doesn't work from the other computer, then I would suggest looking into that. I won't go into what we could look for - as there are too many possibilities, and we aren't sure what the cause is...
Personally, I would also try to connect to another computer from your local one - as this would test whether there is a problem there too.
Let us know how you get on...!

Do you actually make a good connection and can see the other desktop and then BOOM, you get kicked off?

Hi guys and thanks for the replies!
@newlewdman: I won't be able to check it until my boyfriend gets home.. I will let you know what's the result later today. I worked fine until yesterday. I have no idea what's the problem.
@steve: I open the RD shortcut, it loads the login screen, I type my user name and password, it loads without problems. Then it asks me to log into my work system (IJM - InfoJet Manager). I type my Id and my password, hit ENTER, showing that data is loading for a second and then immediately closes.
I actually can't see the desktop, it's only visible to the admin not to me but I do exist and work within the system.. We changed server last year so change has been made but it's been working just perfectly until yesterday. |

Hang on... Just want to get this straight...
You can get the connection open, to the point at which you get the logon prompt.
You can enter your credentials to the remote computer.
You get into your profile there.
You then get the login prompt for the "IJM" application.
You are able to enter your details into the prompt for that application, and it starts to load.
There is then an error that causes it to fail.
Is that correct..?
If so, are you still connected to the remote computer..?? If you aren't, then are you able to get straight back onto it, or does it need to be restarted at the other end..? |

Maybe I should explain a few more things. I'm located in Poland and the server is hosted in Germany.
When I open the RD it connects to the server by loading the log screen. I type my user name and password. It logs me in and right after it happens IJM log in screen loads asking me for my log in details. I enter them, while they are loading the whole thing (IJM and server) closes.
I remain connect to the remote computer as long as I am not logging into the IJM.
Since after the server has been updated I am not able to see the actual desktop (which is OK and isn't the issue. Admin said it has to be like that). I just simply log into the server by using remote desktop and then log into the IJM.
I sent the message to the Admin but he isn't responding and I need to work it out the issue ASAP... |

What update did he do? It's possible that if he did a system wide update IJM needs to be reinstalled or if it's a server update then it may be incompatible with IJM's current version, hence the crash. I would say it is definitely an IJM - Server issue as your connection appears to be fine if you don't load IJM

^^ + 1...
It sounds like something fairly unusual, but it is certainly something that is outside of your control - if you don't log into IJM then the connection stays open, but once you attempt to log in it falls over. This is pointing to the problem being at the other end, and would happen to anyone else who logs into that computer.
I'd be tempted to try to log into the IJM with incorrect credentials, just to see what happens then, but I don't think it would be much of an assistance in working out what is causing this.
The physical locations of the machines has nothing to do with this issue. You could be in the same room, the same building, different continent......shouldn't make any difference to your RD session.
Thinking about it while re-reading my post, I'm curious to know whether anyone else has reported having a problem with this, especially those who are remote. Without knowing any more than you've given above, we can't tell whether you connect onto a Terminal Server or a PC, but if anyone else uses the same RD connection details as you I would see whether they have the same problem. It could be a problem with your account/profile on the machine that has suddenly become apparent, or it could be a conflict or other issue with the machine itself. |
