Notebook Networking Problem

hello
I am trying to connect my two laptops together to share my files but with no success. Both have vista home edition and i have set both with IP address of 192.168.0.2 and 192.168.0.3 and subnet mask of 255.255.255.0 and default gateway of 192.168.0.1. When i ping the addresses i get a request timeout and lose all 4 sent packages. one laptop is an acer and the newer is a Dell. Acer has a green solid light on at the port and the dell has a solid orange. can you help me please

Hi, and WELCOME TO TECHIMO...!

I would suggest that you have a better title for the thread, I only clicked out of curiousity (wondering whether it was SPAM) and therefore didn't know what sort of problem you were experiencing.

What happens when you PING the gateway's IP address..?

It could be that Fista is treating your network as a "Public" one, and therefore blocking pretty much everything that is sent to the laptop...
