Sims 3 Graphics issues...help!!

I just got Sims 3 a few days ago and after installing it, I went ahead to play the game. The controls on the low left show but, when I go to choose a house to play, the screen is black with only the indicators of where the houses are. When I go into a house I want to play, the screen is blank as well, only this time blue. I can't even see the Sim that I try to create for the same reason. Anyone else ever have this issue?

What are the spec's of your computer you are running this on? More importantly the graphics card.
