| 100% CPU usage and severe lag during games
I recently started having a severe lag problem during games. It appears to be attributed to 100 percent CPU usage. i know my computer can run these programs because i've never had this issue before, although i do have a lot of programs and have added some large applications since the last time i played games without lag.
I have run disk cleanup, disk defragmenter, spysweeper, antivirus, and registry cleaners. nothing has seemed to help.
any thoughts or suggestions? |

Check in task manager and find app/s that is using the cpu.

Don't use task manager, which doesn't begin to show the whole story. Use Process Explorer (which can be configured to replace task manager). |

EDIT) SORRY JUST POSTED THIS AS A REPLY AND NOT A NEW THREAD, APOLOGIES
hi i have just bought gta 4 for my pc and which meets and in most places exceeds the requirements in order to play this game but i just started to play and it lags quite heavily,
the only place in which my system does not exceed is my cpu which is more or less as recommended i.e core2duo 1.8ghz where mine is 1.86ghz, my ram is twice recommended as is my gpu
could this be because i am running windows 7 and not vista or does anybody have any other ideas
my spec is:
core 2 duo 6300 1.86ghz
3gb ddr2 667
asrock 4coredual-vsta
western digital 320gb and 200gb hard drives
ati radeon hd2600 pro 512mb
am quite new to pc gaming so any advice would be greatly appreciated
many thanks
glen

GTA4 is heavily cpu dependent which is what is bottlenecking my rig. If you turn the graphics really low that card should just about play it. This game runs just as good when I had it on vista 64.
If you can overclock that proc at all you will see large improvements.
EDIT:- Just had a look on the back of my case min gpu are 7900 or x1900 both are superior to that 2600.
