ETHERNET PORT NOT WORKING

When i turn on my dell studio 1537 one of the LED's will be illuminated. When i plug the cable into the port, i get no internet. From what i understand when you have connectivity, the LED's will blink for indication of connectivity. I am able to connect via a wireless connection, what could be the problem?

If you go into the device manager and click on the Ethernet cable what status does it report?

TXBOOGIE - Did you ever get your ethernet port to work? I had to reinstall Vista 64-bit back on my Dell Studio 17 and strangely, the ethernet port is inop. Device manager says it's working fine and the driver is up to date but no lights when I connect to it. Just to make sure that it wasn't a bad cable from my router, I connected it to my spare laptop and it works just fine but no on my Studio 17.
I've read all kinds of forums about fixes but nothing is working. I don't really need it but I hate the fact that something that should be working, doesn't.
