this is my first build and i cant get any power to box. i'm at a loss for troubleshooting this thing. i don't have any idea what problem could be other than faulty PSU. i push power button and get nothing. i have:
So is this a PC you built yourself then I take it.
Are you sure the power button is hooked up properly to the motherboard? Have you doubled checked to make sure you have all power cables plugged into the board and components?
Is the switch on the PSU turned to "on"
Really the best way to tell, pull everything from the case. Set the motherboard on a cardboard box, or something else non conductive. Hook up one stick of RAM, CPU and heatsink, and graphics. (if the board has onboard, use those for now) Power supply obviously needs to be hooked up to.
Touch the on/off pins on the motherboard with a screwdriver, or something else metal. It should kick on then.
This will eliminate grounding out, other bad RAM sticks, etc.
Post back some more info and we'll see if we can help
yeah this is my first build. i switched the power button hook ups already i thought that might have been the problem. there isnt an "on" switch on the PSU though. i will try to unhook everything and reconnect it. if that doesn't work you thinkin bad PSU? thanks for takin time on this to help me. i will post again once i try your ideas.
It's really hard to say if it's a bad PSU or not. I mean, DOA's do happen, but silverstone PSU's are very solid, so it's unlikely.
And by the "on" switch, I meant there is normally a switch near the plug in on the PSU that enables/disables current to the unit.
Is there another desktop PC you could maybe test the PSU on?
It would be a rather easy test to check the psu just remove all the connections and use the old jumper trick.
You can also eliminate the power button from the equation and use a screw driver to momentarily cross the two power pins
