    Unhappy Help Dell Latitude D610 Power Problem!!

    Hi,
    I have a dell latitude d610, and I could not get it to turn on. Upon removing the cover, I found that the power button switch board, I believe is broken. I also noticed that none of the lights like the caps lights came on when it was woorking, which confirms that the power button switch board is broken.

    My question is, is it easy to replace?? I can get one from ebay, but does it just slide right in once you remove the screws? Are all switch boards universal??

    If anyone know about this problem, can you please post step-by step directions that are really specific? I'm not great inside laptops.

    Please help, I would really appreciate it. [my first post}

    It is easy

    Just go to this link Documentation

    Click on "Palm Rest"

    Follow instructions for removal.

    Remove 3 screws that hold down power button board. Lift out. Replace.

    Shazaam!

    It's most likely not the battery...the battery has a built in meter. You can check it by simply pressing the battery check button. On the Dell forums people claim "it's the battery" and "it's the power adapter". While these parts can go bad the D500 and D600 series are notorious for the failing power button board.

    I have a D610 with the same problem, and decided to look into it a bit further today.

    It seems that the problem is not the power button board, but the standoff that connects it to the motherboard. On mine, the solder joints between the motherboard and the standoff have come apart, rendering the board "disconnected". I plan on attempting to re-solder the standoff to the motherboard.
